Credit is what you get to be able to buy things in life!
Think of your credit score as a GPA.
An excellent credit score (800-850) is equivalent to an A+ (5.0 GPA).
A great credit score (730-799) is equivalent to an A (4.0 GPA).
A good credit score (680-729) is equivalent to a B (3.0 GPA).
A fair credit score (580-679) is equivalent to a C (2.0 GPA).
A poor credit score (500-579) is equivalent to a D (1.0 GPA).
A very poor credit score (300-499) is equivalent to an F (0.0 GPA).
When you first start out you have no credit, like coming into high school with no classes taken. Having no credit is better than having bad credit. You might not get a $50,000 loan or the best interest rate, but you will have auto loan options without any credit. Taking out a loan or getting a credit card will help you to build credit. Every time you pay your bill on time, you put an A on your report card.
Having a good credit score is important for buying major life purchases like a house, car, or even a college education. The better your credit score, the more trustworthy you are to lenders, resulting in better interest rates. The lower your interest rate the less you’ll pay over time.
